The doctor of medicine (M.D.)/master of business administration (M.B.A.) dual-degree program in New Brunswick, which is a collaborative effort with the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, is designed to provide medical students with the knowledge and skills necessary for positions in the health care industry that require expertise in both the medical and economic aspects of health care. Students earn both the M.D. degree and the M.B.A. degree during the course of a five-year medical school program. As a dual-degree program, students fulfill all academic requirements for each degree.

Admission to the program is competitive.

Applicants interested in the M.D./M.B.A. program are required to apply directly to Rutgers Business School either prior to matriculation at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School or during their second or third year of medical school. Medical school students are encouraged to do the M.B.A. portion either prior to matriculating in the medical school or after their third year. Medical school applicants applying to the M.B.A. program are required to take the GMAT/GRE examination, and must apply and be accepted into Rutgers Business School independently of their medical school acceptance.

To apply to the M.B.A. program at Rutgers Business School, visit the website.

Curriculum

The M.B.A. curriculum requires the completion of 60 credits of coursework. This includes 28 credits of required core and foundation M.B.A. courses focused on accounting, economics, finance, decision analysis, marketing, statistics, information technology, supply chain management, law, and management strategies. This sequence of coursework also includes a choice of the 3-credit integrative requirement by completing Integrative Business Applications, Urban Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, Supply Chain Management Industry Project, or Evaluating New Ventures. The program is specifically targeted to the needs of medical students through the inclusion of 12 credits transferred in from the medical school in areas of ethics, environmental medicine, and clinical prevention. The remaining credits required for the M.B.A. represent elective business courses or noted substitutes selected on the basis of student interest and may include available courses at the Rutgers School of Public Health.
