The requirements for a major in French are the following:
1. 30 credits in French language and literature, which may
include 21:420:131,132 Intermediate French. Any of the French language
and literature courses numbered 200 or higher may be taken to satisfy
this requirement, with the exception of 21:420:311,312 French
Literature in English Translation. The prerequisite for advanced
literature courses is 21:420:205,206 Introduction to French Literature.
2. 9 credits in other courses within the department, at
least three of which must be in literature in the original language or
in translation.
3. 6 credits from one or more of the
following as approved by an adviser: English literature courses
numbered higher than 215,216; philosophy; music history; art history;
history and classics.
