The music major and minor are offered at NCAS; an M.A. in jazz history
and research is offered through the Graduate School-Newark.
The music faculty offers expertise in all types of music, including
jazz, classical, and world music, integrating the varieties of musical
experience wherever possible. The music offerings are designed to
foster a broad view of music encompassing traditions around the world.
Students have frequent contact with faculty advisers, who aid in
planning work and defining goals. The major is designed to assist the
student to function easily with music. Today's musician should strive
to be competent as a scholar, as a creator, and as a performer.
