All law school students may take up to 6 credits of graduate-level courses at other Rutgers divisions for credit toward the J.D. degree. Moreover, 12 credits of interdisciplinary work may be approved for students enrolled in joint-degree programs at the doctoral level, and 9 credits may be approved for students in dual-degree programs at the master's level. Interdisciplinary courses intended to meet the J.D. academic and residence requirements must be approved in advance of registration by the Associate Dean for Student Affairs. Permission is based on the following criteria: (1) the course must be reasonably related to the law; and (2) the course may not duplicate a course offered in the law school curriculum, or be one that the student has taken prior to entering law school.
Students working simultaneously for two degrees must ensure that they are carrying sufficient credits for J.D. residence purposes.
Students may not take courses at another school, even a course not for credit toward the J.D., without prior approval of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs. The course is subject to the school's maximum credit load.
