Learning Goals
Majors in Asian studies will acquire an interdisciplinary knowledge of Asia through a wide range of course
offerings in the humanities and social science disciplines such as: Asian
languages, literature, visual culture, history, religion, economics, political
science, art history, geography, anthropology, sociology, musicology, and
linguistics. Students will develop critical skills in analyzing and
interpreting texts from these disciplines and acquire the competency necessary for
continuing on to graduate study or employment requiring such knowledge.
Requirements
The major in Asian studies
requires 12 courses (of 3 credits or more) distributed as follows:
- Two courses in
Asian studies, chosen from East Asian Civilizations: Traditional Era (01:098:241),
East Asian Civilizations: Modern Era (01:098:242), or Global East Asia (01:098:250)
- Nine elective
courses in Asian Studies, at least four of which must be offered in subject
codes 098, 165, 565, or 574, and may include language courses above the
100-level
- Capstone Seminar
on East Asian Societies (01:098:444)
