The minor in Jewish studies consists of six 3-credit courses (18 credits), including the two Jewish studies core courses: 01:563:201 Jewish Society and Culture I: From Antiquity to the Middle Ages (3) and 01:563:202 Jewish Society and Culture II: The Early Modern and Modern Experience (3). Of the four remaining courses, three must be at the 300 level or above. Elementary- and intermediate-level language courses may not be counted toward the minor. A grade of C or better is required in all courses that count toward the minor.
Learning Goals: Minors will be able to demonstrate a broad view of the Jewish past and more in-depth knowledge of a sample of the spectrum of Jewish studies.
Requirements for the Modern Hebrew Language Minor
The minor in modern Hebrew language consists of six 3-4
credit courses in Hebrew language and literature. Students must reach the level
of at least 563:211. Entering students must take the departmental placement
exam. Those students who place into a level of Hebrew higher than 563:211 must
complete six courses in modern Hebrew language. Two of the six courses may be
transferred, subject to departmental approval. No Biblical Hebrew courses can
count toward the fulfillment of this minor. A student may not major in Jewish studies
and minor in modern Hebrew language at the same time. Learning Goals:
Minors in modern Hebrew language will be able to demonstrate proficiency in the Hebrew
language.
Requirements for the Language and
Culture of Ancient Israel Minor
The minor in language and culture of ancient Israel consists of six 3-credit
courses (18 credits total) from the courses listed below. A student may not
major in Jewish studies and minor in the language and culture of ancient Israel
at the same time. The following courses count toward the minor:
