Shireen L. Rizvi's areas of interest include the assessment and treatment of borderline personality disorder (BPD), posttraumatic stress disorder, the emotion of shame, and suicidal behaviors. She has particular expertise in the teaching and practice of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Her current research focuses on: 1) the use of mobile technology to promote skills use among individuals with BPD and substance use disorders, funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse; and 2) conducting component analysis studies on the DBT skills training package to determine the effective agents of change. Dr. Rizvi has written and presented numerous theoretical and research papers on BPD, DBT, shame, and trauma. Dr. Rizvi's classes include Cognitive Behavioral Assessment and Fundamentals of Dialectical Behavior Therapy. She is an active member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies.
