Shernoff is an assistant professor in the Psy.D. program in school psychology. Her research centers on developing and
testing interventions to reduce stress, enhance effectiveness, and increase
retention among teachers working in high-poverty schools. She has authored over
20 publications on these issues. She was the principal investigator of an
IES-funded Development and Innovation Grant entitled Enhancing Effectiveness and Connectedness among Early Career Teachers
in Urban Schools (5/09-4/13). This study focused on developing, refining,
and testing the feasibility and promise of a professional development model for
urban early career teachers. Her studies reflect the overall goal of her work
to expand mental health practice in high-poverty schools to include supporting
teacher effectiveness as a mechanism for promoting positive academic and
behavioral outcomes for children. Dr.
Shernoff also serves on the editorial board for the Journal of School Psychology and serves as a reviewer for the American Educational Research Journal,
School Mental Health, Administration and Policy in Mental Health and Mental Health
Services Research, and Remedial and
Special Education.
