Elisa Shernoff

Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Madison

Elisa Shernoff is an assistant professor in the Psy.D. program in school psychology. Her research centers on developing and testing interventions to reduce stress, enhance effectiveness, and increase retention among teachers working in high-poverty schools. She has authored over 20 publications on these issues. She was the principal investigator of an IES-funded Development and Innovation Grant entitled Enhancing Effectiveness and Connectedness among Early Career Teachers in Urban Schools (5/09-4/13). This study focused on developing, refining, and testing the feasibility and promise of a professional development model for urban early career teachers. Her studies reflect the overall goal of her work to expand mental health practice in high-poverty schools to include supporting teacher effectiveness as a mechanism for promoting positive academic and behavioral outcomes for children. Dr. Shernoff also serves on the editorial board for the Journal of School Psychology and serves as a reviewer for the American Educational Research Journal, School Mental Health, Administration and Policy in Mental Health and Mental Health Services Research, and Remedial and Special Education.
