The master of arts in teaching (M.A.T.) in Spanish offers an exceptional academic and professional preparation for those interested in pursuing a career in K-12 teaching. Graduates will acquire advanced abilities in the target language, an intense training in pedagogical methods, and an acute sensibility of the academic and cultural needs of the communities they work with. The combination of these three factors--pedagogical training, linguistic competence, and cultural awareness--sharply distinguishes our M.A.T. from other more traditional programs.
The M.A.T. offers three tracks: Track 1 (30 credits) is for certified Spanish teachers, while Track 2 (45 credits) and Track 3 (30 credits) are for students seeking to receive both a master's degree and a teaching certification for the state of New Jersey. Track 2 is aimed at students that do not possess 30 content credits in Spanish by the time that they start their graduate education.
