The master of arts (M.A.) program in criminal justice promotes study for those seeking career opportunities or advancement in justice-related fields as well as those who seek preparation for doctoral study.
The graduate program builds on the multidisciplinary strength of the faculty. The criminal justice faculty emphasizes a comprehensive understanding of crime and the justice system, including contemporary issues affecting it, and the analytic skills required to conduct and to apply research and to assess public policy. Students may also take courses in public policy and administration, whose faculty stresses the skills to oversee complex public agencies. Faculty members from the Graduate School-Camden and Rutgers Law School in Camden provide the program with a wide array of justice-related electives.
The department also offers a dual master of arts/master of public administration (M.A./M.P.A.) degree with the Department of Public Policy and Administration. That program provides students with a comprehensive criminal justice and public management education.
The M.A. program in criminal justice and the dual M.A./M.P.A. program are open to part-time and full-time students. Required courses are offered in the evening hours. Some elective courses are available during the day.
