Departmental Honors

To qualify for departmental honors upon graduation, a student must have attained a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.4 at the end of the first semester of the junior year, with a cumulative average of at least 3.4 in all courses required for the major. By the end of the first semester of their junior year, students must apply formally to the department chair for admission to the program. In the spring of their junior year, students enroll in an honors seminar in which a research project is designed and developed. In the fall semester of their senior year, students whose projects have been approved register for Honors Research in Exercise Science and carry out the research project. Both semesters must be successfully completed to receive departmental honors recognition.

Students in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences who qualify for departmental honors may undertake the George H. Cook Scholars Program in conjunction with departmental honors.
