The
program helps students develop skills in recruiting, selecting,
compensating, training, and developing employees. At the same time, it
gives students a knowledge of human resource information systems,
performance management, and human resource planning within a strategy
framework. The student body comprises individuals from throughout the
United States and the world. Program participants come from a variety
of undergraduate majors and work experiences.
Master of Labor and Employment Relations
The master of labor and employment relations (M.L.E.R.) degree provides a broad, multidisciplinary education to produce graduates who are thoughtful professionals, informed leaders, and/or researchers grounded in contemporary reality. The M.L.E.R. program at Rutgers allows students to specialize by combining required classes with carefully-selected electives. Students can, in consultation with their adviser, tailor their program to meet their own individual needs.
The faculty has produced the largest body of scholarly work in the world rethinking labor strategies and structures for organizing and representing workers and social movements in the 21st century. Current areas of research and specialization include new forms of social movements, labor representation, and union revitalization; immigration and globalization; and diversity and labor market barriers faced by disadvantaged groups. The student body comprises individuals from throughout the United States and the world. Program participants come from a variety of undergraduate majors and work experiences.
Graduates leave the school prepared for careers with unions, nonprofit organizations, corporations, government agencies, and other organizations. Some enter law school after completing the degree or go on to doctoral programs.
Industrial Relations and Human Resources
The
Ph.D. in industrial relations and human resources (I.R.H.R.) is designed to
prepare students for teaching and research careers in industrial
relations and human resource management. The program, which enrolled
its first students in 1990, has developed a national reputation for its
high standards.
