With advance approval of their graduate program director, students may enroll without receiving credit in a graduate course or a 100- through 400-level undergraduate course. When they register, they must indicate that they are seeking not-for-credit status by entering the symbol N. They must pay the normal tuition fee for the course and fulfill the same requirements as all other students during the semester, including the execution of any written assignments. At the end of the semester, however, they may not take the final examination, and they receive a grade of S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory). The course and the letter grade are included on each student's record, but the student earns no credit from the course toward a degree.
