The Police Institute at the Rutgers School of Criminal Justice was formed in 2001. Since that time, the institute has successfully integrated research, problem solving, and criminal justice policy and practice. By means of the Safer Cities Partnership, a dynamic collaboration of law enforcement, community-based, faith-based, and social service agencies, the Police Institute aims to promote safer neighborhoods in the greater Newark area. Under the umbrella of the Safer Cities Partnership are three main collaborations: Operation CeaseFire, the Adult At-Risk Caseload, and the Juvenile Justice Reentry Initiative (JJRI). Through these efforts, the Police Institute hopes to create enduring collaborations among state, local, and community-based entities that share an interest in public safety and quality-of-life issues.
