As part of the comprehensive examination option, the student must
pass a written final comprehensive examination that tests a student`s
ability to synthesize a body of knowledge in criminal justice. Students
enrolled in the doctoral program may substitute the Ph.D. qualifying
examination for the M.A. comprehensive examination.

Students who select this option must pass the examination in order to
graduate and need not complete a master`s essay. Students may sit only
twice for the comprehensive examination. Students who fail to pass on
the second opportunity may complete the M.A. program only with the
permission of the M.A. Scholastic Standing Committee by enrolling in
27:202:550 Master's Essay. A minimum of 24 credits is required for
eligibility to take the examination. This examination is scheduled each
term. Applications for the examination may be obtained from the dean`s
office.
Beyond the required credits listed above, a student is
free to elect the credits necessary to complete the master`s degree.
This enables each master`s student to develop an individual program
that focuses on his or her area of personal and/or professional
interest.
