The master of science (M.S.) in biomedical sciences/master of business administration (M.B.A.) dual-degree program is offered by Rutgers School of Graduate Studies and Rutgers Business School. The program is directed toward individuals with a science background. It trains students in both management and biomedical principles.

Current entry-level managers may have limited experience in the biological sciences or may have master of public health (M.P.H.) or medical degrees. Positions that would find such a dual degree of benefit include:

• Department or Group Manager at biotechnical/pharmaceutical company
• Director of Operations, Marketing Manager, Product Manager, Field Manager, or Sales Representative at biotechnical/pharmaceutical company
• Director of Materials Management at biotechnical/pharmaceutical company or at an Integrated Healthcare Network
• Manager in a Public Policy Department at a state or federal government agency

Applicants will need to apply to both programs separately. Both schools must issue an acceptance for the student to enroll in the dual-degree program.

Admission into the dual M.S./M.B.A. program requires a score on the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE). It is preferable that the GMAT or GRE score falls among the top third percentile and a superior undergraduate grade point average (GPA) is preferred. Management experience is encouraged. Strong performance in one area can offset weak performance in another. The School of Graduate Studies requires that applicants have a basic background in biology and chemistry.

Students in the dual-degree program will spend the majority of the first year in the M.B.A. component of the program and pay tuition at both schools.* During the second year, students complete the M.S. portion of their program and any M.B.A. credits that are still needed to complete the requirements.

* Even though students take the majority of their first semester in the M.B.A. portion, it is recommended that students take the Fundamentals of Biomedical Science I course (3 credits) as well as Seminar in Biomedical Science (1 credit) at the School of Graduate Studies during their first fall semester.
