Placement Examinations for Entering Students


Placement tests are administered to incoming students admitted to University College-Newark to evaluate their proficiency in mathematics and English Composition prior to course enrollment.

Transfer students who have completed at least one college-level mathematics course at or above the level of college algebra may be exempt from placement testing in mathematics, and those who have completed at least one college-level composition course may be exempt from placement testing in writing. All other entering students must take a placement test in mathematics and writing before they may register for courses.

Students residing more than 200 miles from campus may be eligible for off-site placement testing. Please contact the Office of Academic Services for information about remote placement testing.
