Engineering: Four-Year Program

There are two programs for students who wish to pursue a bachelor`s degree in engineering. The first, the Two Plus Two Program, is offered to specially qualified students upon admission to the Newark College of Arts and Sciences. This program offers the student a guaranteed space in the School of Engineering in New Brunswick upon completion of the required courses during the first two years at Newark campus with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. The student then completes the remaining two years of study in the School of Engineering in New Brunswick.

The second, the Preengineering Transfer Program, is available to regularly admitted students who wish to transfer to the School of Engineering in New Brunswick. Students in this program follow the identical curriculum as students in the Two Plus Two Program. However, students in the Preengineering Transfer Program must apply for admission to the School of Engineering via the College-to-College transfer process.

Two Plus Two Program

By combining science and liberal arts courses at NCAS with appropriate courses at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, this four-year program allows the student to complete the first two years of a regular engineering curriculum at the Newark College of Arts and Sciences. The last two years are taken at the School of Engineering in New Brunswick. The bachelor of science degree is conferred by the School of Engineering at the end of the fourth year.

Preengineering Transfer Program

Students admitted to the Newark College of Arts and Sciences may apply to transfer to the School of Engineering by means of the College-to-College online application no later than November 15 for the spring term and May 15 for the fall term. Students interested in transferring must satisfactorily meet the standards of the School of Engineering and should contact the engineering adviser in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the earliest opportunity. As is the case with other preprofessional programs, competition is intense and admission to the School of Engineering is not guaranteed.

Curriculum

There are five tracks of study for engineering majors in either program: biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical and chemical engineering, and mechanical engineering. All majors take the same program of courses during the first year. The program of courses during the second year depends on the selected track of study; students should consult with the engineering adviser in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science for additional information.
