Admission

The Bloustein School welcomes current Rutgers-New Brunswick students as well as prospective students to consider our major and minor programs of study. We offer five undergraduate majors and nine minors.

Students seeking the planning and public policy, urban planning and design, public policy, public health, or health administration major must apply for admission to the Bloustein School.

Students declare their minor with their matriculating school. They need not apply for minor status with the Bloustein School.

Students already enrolled in the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) or the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS) at Rutgers University-New Brunswick should obtain information about Bloustein School admission and an application from the school's website, https://bloustein.rutgers.edu/undergraduate

Transfer students admitted to Rutgers by the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy should attend a Students in Transition Advising and Registration (STAR) session before the start of classes in order to learn more about their academic program and schedule their courses for their first semester at Rutgers. Please visit https://bloustein.rutgers.edu/students/undergrad-resources/star-program/ to learn more.

Students who:

  • successfully meet all of the eligibility requirements (see the Programs of Study section),
  • who have completed their area distribution requirements for English and mathematics,
  • who hold at least a 2.5 cumulative grade-point average, and
  • who have achieved grades of C or better in each of the prerequisite courses for the respective majors

are encouraged to apply for direct admission to the Bloustein School. Acceptance of applications and decisions about admission are made on a cyclical basis.

Students applying to a Bloustein School major who are interested in applied research and who hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.4 or better are encouraged to apply to the Bloustein Honors Research Program.

Questions about any of the programs, majors, minors, or certificates offered can be directed to the Bloustein School's Office of Student and Academic Services by emailing  undergrad@ejb.rutgers.edu. Undergraduate advisers answer all emails.

*Note: Given that there are several different options available in admissions, please see the program's homepage to determine which path is yours.
