Chemical Biology 158
30:158:309-310 Biochemical Foundations of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology I and II Covers basic principles in cell and molecular biology and biochemistry. Addresses the application of biochemistry to biotechnology. Focuses on the concepts in biochemistry and molecular biology in drug discovery and the practice of pharmacy.
Lec. 3 hrs. Prerequisites: 01:119:115,116,117 (formerly 01:119:101-102); 01:160:307-308.
30:158:402 Diet, Nutrition, and Disease Prevention in Pharmacy Practice (2) Selected topics on diet and nutrition as they relate to health and disease. The biochemical mechanisms and critical analyses of the existing information will be emphasized. Students are encouraged to make class presentations or write semester papers. Lec. 2 hrs.
30:158:420 Pharmaceutical Microbiology (3) Study of the basic principles of human disease causing bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, and helminth parasites. This courses focuses on organisms capable of causing disease as well as the study of the immune system and mechanisms used to defend against pathological  microorganisms. Also included are the mechanisms of pharmacological agents such as antibiotics that are used to treat infectious microorganisms.
Prerequisites: 01:119:115,116,117 (formerly 01:119:101-102); 01:160:307-308; 01:694:301.
30:158:495,496,497,498 Research in Chemical Biology (BA) Undergraduate research in chemical biology. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor. No more than two semesters of research courses may be used to satisfy degree requirements.
