Requirements for the Jewish Studies Minor
Minors must complete six courses (at least 18 credits), offered by the Department of Jewish Studies or cross-listed by the department, with a grade of C or better in each course, as follows.
Required courses:
- 01:563:201 Jewish Society and Culture I: From Antiquity to the Middle Ages (3), preferably taken before the junior year.
- 01:563:202 Jewish Society and Culture II: The Early Modern and Modern Experience (3), preferably taken before the junior year.
Elective courses: Four courses (at least 3 credits each), of which no more than two can be in elementary or intermediate language.

in-depth knowledge of a sample of the spectrum of Jewish studies.Requirements for the Minor in Modern Hebrew Language
The minor in modern Hebrew language consists of six courses (3 or 4 credits each) in modern Hebrew language and literature. Students must successfully complete Advanced Hebrew (563:211) or its equivalent. Students who have previous study of Hebrew language before coming to Rutgers must first take the departmental placement exam. Those students who place into a level of Hebrew language higher than 563:211 must complete six courses in modern Hebrew literature. Two of the six courses may be transferred from another institution, subject to departmental approval. Biblical Hebrew courses may not count toward the fulfillment of this minor. A student may not major in Jewish studies and minor in modern Hebrew language.
Learning Goals: Minors in modern Hebrew language will be able to demonstrate proficiency in the Hebrew language.
Requirements for the Minor in Language and Culture of Ancient Israel
The minor in language and culture of ancient Israel consists of six courses (18 credits total) from the courses listed below. A student may not
major in Jewish studies and minor in the language and culture of ancient Israel
at the same time. The following courses count toward the minor:
