The
program in criminal justice is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary
program that blends a strong liberal arts educational experience with
preprofessional instruction in the field of criminal justice. Majors
will be able to demonstrate skills in effective written and oral
communication, critical analysis of data and ideas, and computer
literacy; knowledge of the major theories, methodologies, and research
topics and strategies in the field of criminal justice; a historical
and contemporary understanding of the social, cultural, and legal factors
that influence the criminal justice field in the United States and
around the world; an understanding of the ethical and moral issues that
permeate the criminal justice field; awareness of local, national, and
international perspectives of criminal justice; and an understanding of the
role of human behavior and social order on issues of criminal justice.
Majors will be prepared for postbaccalaureate graduate or professional
studies in criminal justice, sociology, public policy, social work, and
law or employment in a variety of legal, policymaking, and law
enforcement occupations.
