Students may elect a minor program in music consisting of at least 18 credits, distributed as follows: (1) at least 6 credits in music theory (example: 07:700:103,104); (2) at least 6 credits in music history; and (3) 6 elective credits in music. The courses most commonly used for the music minor are: 07:700:101 and 102 for music history and 07:700:103 and 104 for music theory. The music history requirement may also be satisfied by history courses at the 200 level (700:211, 212, 237, 238, 295, and 296). The electives may be satisfied by further courses in music theory or history or by ensemble participation. At least 6 of the 18 credits required for the minor must be taken at Rutgers. Exceptions to the prescribed distribution of requirements must be approved by the Mason Gross School of the Arts Department of Music coordinator of undergraduate studies.
