The honors program in Latino and Hispanic Caribbean studies enables students to work closely with a faculty member to develop and complete an advanced research project.
At the end of the junior year, students with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better and 3.4 or better within the major are eligible to apply to the chair of the department for admission to the honors program. Students must discuss their plans with the department chair, who will recommend the appropriate faculty member to serve as the honors project director.
Honors students must enroll in the senior seminar (01:595:497) during the fall semester and develop and implement a detailed research plan. During the spring semester of the senior year, the student completes a substantial research project and writes the thesis. The project director will read the completed project and recommend to the department chair whether to confer departmental honors. Upon approval by the project director, the department confers honors.
