The Department of
Naval Science offers several programs of instruction for men and women leading
to commissions in the U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps. Navy: Navy option students complete a course of instruction tailored
toward a career in the professional communities in the Navy including Surface
Warfare (Conventional and Nuclear Power), Submarine Warfare (Nuclear Power), Aviation,
Explosive Ordnance Disposal, and SEAL. All Navy option scholarship students
must complete the required calculus and calculus-based physics courses by the
end of their sophomore and junior years, respectively, in addition to a full
regimen of naval science courses.

Marine: Marine option students follow a similar course of study but replace
several Navy courses with Marine Corps specific classes required for their
respective career paths. Marine option

All midshipmen are
required to attend the weekly Naval Science Laboratory. These three-hour
sessions offer the student an active role in the management and direction of
the midshipman battalion and provide time for the midshipmen to explore
professional topics.
