A. Major Requirements (54-55 credits)
The major in public health is offered by the Edward J.
Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy. It involves a total of
20-21 credits in prerequisite courses that students must complete (with
grades of C or better in each of them) prior to declaring the major,
plus four additional required courses (16 credits), plus six public health
elective courses (18 credits). The prerequisite courses for the major are as
follows:

The six elective courses (at least
four of which must be at the 300 level or above) must be either public health
(subject code 832) courses, or preapproved public health electives. Students

B. Additional SEBS Core Requirements for Students Majoring in Public Health (30 credits)
SEBS majors in public health must complete additional course
requirements associated with the SEBS core. This involves a maximum total
of 32 additional credits; however, with appropriate selection of courses in
Areas IV and VIII below, a total of 9 of these 32 SEBS core requirement
credits may also be used toward the fulfillment of the requirements of the
major (item A. above). Students are strongly urged to consult both with
their academic adviser and with an assistant dean at SEBS for guidance in
developing a plan of coursework.

their academic adviser before selecting an economics course, because the
appropriate course to take depends on whether the student is interested in
environmental health, health policy, or health administration. With careful planning in consultation with an
adviser, it may be possible for a student to meet this 3-credit SEBS
requirement with an economics course that could also be used to in fulfillment
of the requirements for the public health major.

IX. Unspecified Electives (43-53 credits)
In addition to courses meeting the above requirements,
students can take any other courses offered by the university, for which they
meet the course eligibility requirements, to bring their total number of
credits to the minimum of 128 required for graduation.
