Ali Maher, Ph.D., Director

The Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation's (CAIT) research, education, and technology transfer initiatives tackle critical multimodal transportation issues such as bridge health monitoring and rehabilitation, pavement design, port security and operations, reducing roadway crashes, preparing a strong transportation workforce, and making sure our infrastructure supports necessary commerce and economic growth.

CAIT, based at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is one of only 10 Tier I University Transportation Centers (UTC), an elite group of academic research institutions sanctioned and supported by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The center partners with government, industry, and academia to solve mounting infrastructure challenges, advance state-of-the-art technologies, and prepare the next generation of transportation professionals.

Located in central New Jersey, CAIT is amid the most densely populated transportation corridor in the United States. Taking advantage of our proximity to the nation's most heavily traveled roadway network, third-largest port system, busiest rail line, and four major international airports, CAIT researchers use the area as an in situ laboratory and test bed for real-world solutions.

Across all transportation modes, CAIT is helping to keep U.S. infrastructure in a state of good repair and meet the need for safe, efficient, and environmentally sound ways to move people and goods in our nation and beyond.
