Management
The Ph.D. in management program in the Graduate School-Newark, which is staffed primarily by the faculty of the Rutgers Business School-Newark and New Brunswick, offers the following majors:
- accounting
- accounting information systems
- finance
- information technology
- international business
- management science
- marketing
- organization management
- science, technology, and management
- supply chain management
In some cases, a student's work in a doctoral program in the Graduate School-New Brunswick may simultaneously satisfy the requirements of one of these majors. In this case, the student will be awarded a single joint Ph.D. for both the home program and the management program. The student's transcript will be annotated to indicate that the student has satisfied the requirements of both Ph.D. programs. A student interested in such a joint degree should consult as early as possible with his or her program director, who will consult with the director of the Ph.D. in management program. The Ph.D. in management director will appoint a member of the management faculty to help advise the student on courses and on a dissertation topic that may satisfy the requirements of both programs. The Ph.D. in management director will also certify a course plan that will enable the student to take the qualifying examination for the management major as soon as possible after passing the qualifying examination for the student's home program. In order to remain a candidate for the joint Ph.D. after passing the qualifying examination, the student must remain in good standing in both programs. Withdrawal or dismissal from one will not change the student's status in the other. The student's dissertation committee will be appointed by the two program directors acting jointly. Any disagreement will be resolved by the dean of the Graduate School-New Brunswick. The same process may also be used for a student in the Ph.D. in management program who wants to simultaneously satisfy the requirements for a doctoral program in the Graduate School-New Brunswick.
