Absence from any class is a problem. In the event that an absence is unavoidable, it is the student's responsibility to discuss the absence with the instructor to determine whether the absence is excused. One unexcused absence from class can lower the student's final grade; two unexcused absences may result in failure. Three late arrivals are equal to one unexcused absence.
Students are responsible for making up any missed work and being properly prepared for the next class.
The attendance policy for the design and technology program is that two unexcused absences from any class will result in failure of that class. The professor will determine what they regard as "unexcused." Religious holidays will be accepted with advance notice. Illness will be excused with a note from a physician. One unexcused absence will result in a drop of one full grade from the class at the very least. Three late arrivals of 10 minutes or longer will add up to one unexcused absence, and late arrivals of lesser amounts will erode a student's grade to some degree.
More than four absences due to illness, even though excused, MAY result in failure of the class or a requirement to retake it. Extensive absence due to illness will be discussed with the department chair and the Mason Gross dean of students to determine the correct course of action.
