Admission to the M.F.A. degree program in theater arts is based on transcripts of previous academic records, three letters of recommendation, a 200- to 500-word statement of purpose, and the following additional requirements:
Acting.
An audition consisting of two monologues, one classical and one contemporary (not to exceed a total of five minutes), and an interview.
Design and Costume Technology. An interview and presentation of a portfolio containing renderings, production photographs, drafting, light plots and production books, and any nontheatrical works that demonstrate artistic aptitude.
Directing.
A picture, résumé, and copies of recent reviews. Send all of the above to the graduate program director. A minimum undergraduate cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 is preferred. An interview may be required.
Playwriting.
Two or more scripts should be sent to the graduate program director. Be sure to include a self-addressed, stamped return envelope.
Stage Management.
In addition to the interview, prospective stage managers should present production prompt books, samples, or drafting and/or lighting plots, and any other material that demonstrates the applicant's theater background.
Audition/Interview Fee.
In addition to the university's application fee, there is a $75.00 fee for the audition or interview.
