Students have numerous opportunities to be involved in the life of the Rutgers School of Nursing-Camden, the Rutgers University-Camden campus, and the surrounding community.
Students are encouraged to explore the various student organizations on campus, outside of their intended profession, to stimulate interests that contribute to their personal growth. They are also encouraged to volunteer for campus-wide leadership opportunities.
Specific opportunities for students in the School of Nursing-Camden include:
Student Nurses Association (SNA)
The mission of the Student Nurses Association is to enhance the experience of the nursing school in a positive way for all School of Nursing-Camden students through a combination of educational and philanthropic efforts both on campus at Rutgers-Camden and off campus in the city of Camden, New Jersey. The Student Nurses Association also serves as a mechanism through which both the student body and the faculty of the School of Nursing-Camden collaborate on extracurricular nursing-related activities at Rutgers-Camden and in the surrounding community. A yearly nominal registration fee is required. Meetings are scheduled at least monthly.
The National Student Nurses' Association (NSNA) mentors future nurses and facilitates their entrance into the profession. Membership in the Rutgers School of Nursing-Camden chapter of the NSNA is available through the New Jersey Nursing Students, Inc. (NJNS), a preprofessional organization representing student nurses across New Jersey.
Student Representation on School of Nursing-Camden Committees
Students are encouraged to contribute to the activities of the school through volunteer participation on standing faculty committees in the School of Nursing-Camden. Students are encouraged to bring to the committees the opinions and stated needs of the students they represent and to report back to the SNA regarding the proceedings of the faculty committees. Students bring unique perspectives to the work of committees that are essential to professional education. Faculty will announce opportunities for committee participation in class and at meetings of the Student Nurses Association.
