Students preparing to enter medical, dental, or veterinary school
may do so by enrolling in any departmental program leading to a
baccalaureate degree. Unless a student's major program includes at
least 6 credits of physics, 6 credits of general biology, and 12
credits of chemistry (8 credits in Chemical Principles, which meet the inorganic requirement, and 8 credits in Organic Chemistry), these should be
incorporated. Beginning with the 2015 MCAT, students have been required to have taken biochemistry as a prerequisite for the MCAT exam. This program can be completed only through daytime
attendance.
Since some medical, dental, and veterinary schools require
courses in addition to those mentioned, students are advised to
familiarize themselves with the specific requirements of the schools to
which they will apply. The AAMC Medical School Admission Requirements Guide,
available in the college library, is a valuable sourcebook.
Medical, dental, and veterinary schools require that applicants take an
aptitude test as a part of the admissions procedure. Information about
these examinations may be obtained from any member of the premedical
community.
