Juvenile Justice and Youth Development Minor


The minor in juvenile justice and youth development is an interdisciplinary program housed in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice. Students minoring in juvenile justice and youth development are required to take 18 total credits. Nine of these credits are in required courses. At least three of the six courses students take must be outside their major. Students majoring in criminal justice, psychology, childhood studies, or social work may double count 6 credits toward the minor and their major.

The required courses include:
  • 50:202:322  Juvenile Justice
  • 50:830:326  Psychology of Adolescence
  • A 3-credit course with a significant experiential learning component relevant to juvenile justice and youth development, which can be satisfied by one of the following courses. Students taking any course except 50:202:372 must receive preapproval of the site placement or activity associated with the course from the program in juvenile justice and youth development.
  • 50:202:372  Gender Advocacy in Juvenile Justice II
  • 50:202:404  Internship in Criminal Justice
