Teacher certification is available only at the graduate level at Rutgers University-Camden, which offers a master of arts in teaching (M.A.T.) through the Graduate School's Department of Education. However, undergraduate students can participate in an accelerated program that enables them to take up to three master's-level courses while they are undergraduates. These credits can later be applied to the master's program for students admitted to the graduate program. Undergraduate students are eligible to request permission to enter the accelerated program once they have completed 75 credits and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Please see an M.A.T. adviser for more detailed information.

The M.A.T. is a 30-33 credit program with concentrations in P-3, K-6, subject areas, and Special Education. It aligns the student to apply for New Jersey licensure while concurrently completing the requirements for a master's degree.

If you would like more information about the accelerated or graduate program, please see the website or graduate catalog or contact the program at 856-225-6051 to schedule an appointment.

Undergraduates interested in teaching will find the two courses listed below to be useful learning experiences for their careers. The courses also fulfill undergraduate general education requirements either in the area of diversity or experiential learning, as noted below. These courses do not, however, count toward the M.A.T. program.
