Visual, Media, and Performing Arts includes major programs in the visual
arts, art history, music, and theater. The art program offers areas of concentration
in animation, arts education, art therapy, graphic design, intermedia and
electronic arts, painting and drawing, photography, and sculpture. The art history program offers courses in museum studies in addition to an inclusive
curriculum that covers Western and non-Western art. Music students can
concentrate in the areas of composition and music technology, theories and histories, performance, and music education. The theater program offers
concentrations in acting, design and technology, musical theater, and filmmaking.
A combined five-year art/music/or theater education program--bachelor of arts
(B.A.) and master of arts in teaching (M.A.T.)--is designed for students
interested in active careers as practitioners and educators. Minor programs are
available in each area. Major requirements for each of the programs can be
completed only through daytime attendance. Additional information about the
programs can be obtained from the department office on the second floor, Fine
Arts Building.
All students at Rutgers University-Camden are encouraged to take arts
courses to enhance programs of study in other areas. Prospective majors and
minors in some of the areas in art, music, or theater may be required to take
placement exams, audition, or submit a portfolio, as appropriate to the area of
study, at the discretion of the faculty. For more information, contact the
department's office, 856-225-6176.
