Applicants must have a bachelor's (or master's) degree with at least 3.3 GPA (master's) or 3.7 (PhD) from a recognized college or university in a social science or related field. Strong performance in undergraduate or graduate courses in statistics and research methodology is also required. Typical admitted students have at least a 3.5 GPA (master's) or 3.7 GPA (PhD).
An admissions committee of at least three members of the prevention science faculty will grant admission on the basis of transcripts of academic grades in statistics and research methods, a resume or CV, three letters of recommendation on official letterhead, and (for PhD applicants) a personal statement that includes prevention science faculty members with whom the applicant might be interested in working (for a list of program faculty, see
https://preventionscience.camden.rutgers.edu/faculty/). TOEFL scores are required of all foreign students with English as a second language.
For fall admission, if the applicant wishes to be considered for assistantships, fellowships, or other financial aid, or is an international student (with or without financial aid consideration), complete applications should be received no later than January 15 (PhD program) or March 1 (master's program). Applications will continue to be accepted as long as places remain available in the graduate program, although funding may not be available for applicants after these deadlines. On occasion, students are admitted for the spring semester; those students should contact the graduate director directly.
Students may be interviewed by a member or members of the admissions committee before a final decision is made.
