Please complete the online application at http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu.
Submission of GRE scores is not required for general application, but is encouraged if you wish to be considered for a teaching assistantship. We do not have a minimum cut-off score. You may either enter the Rutgers code for automatically mailing GRE scores, or send a copy of your paper score report to the address below.
In addition to the online application, you will need the following supplemental materials:
- A transcript showing the completion of a bachelor of arts (B.A.) degree, with a grade-point average of 3.0 or better
- Two letters of reference
- A short personal statement about your background and goals
- A writing sample
The sample should represent your strongest work, whether published or more recent. You may submit fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, or a combination. Page limit is as follows: 20 to 30 pages of fiction or nonfiction, or 10 pages of poetry, or a combination thereof--10 to 15 pages of prose and five pages of poetry. You may include one or more complete short stories, excerpts from short stories, or excerpts from a novel or novella. Prose should be double-spaced; poetry can be single-spaced. Please do not send more than the specified number of pages. The work should be submitted as a Word or PDF attachment to this email address: mfa@camden.rutgers.edu. Please put your name and the genre(s) of work in your email subject line. You will receive acknowledgment of the work via email.
You may submit your letters of recommendation either electronically or by hard copy. If you are having the letters mailed, provide your recommenders with stamped envelopes addressed to admissions (see below).
The Rutgers admissions website allows you to see what materials are still needed and when your application is complete. You may also direct questions about admission to Leah Falk at laf228@rutgers.edu.
