Track 1:
The formal degree requirements are the
completion of 30 credits, including 56:940:515 Acquisition of Spanish as a Second Language and 56:940:517 Methods of Teaching Spanish.
Students should also pass a comprehensive
master of arts for teachers (M.A.T.) examination as the final degree requirement.
Track 2:
Students should also take 56:940:515 Acquisition of Spanish as a Second Language and 56:940:517 Methods of Teaching Spanish, pass the comprehensive
oral examination as the final degree, and defend a teaching portfolio.
General Requirements
Only one grade below the level of B
will be counted toward credit for the master's degree. After one grade below
the level of B, additional grades below that level will not be counted for credit.
In the case of a M.A./B.A. program:
- Track 1 (30 credits) allows students to earn
up to 6 credits in advanced undergraduate (300- and 400-level) courses at
Rutgers, with approval from the graduate program director.
- Track 2 (42 credits) allows students to take up to 12 credits
in advanced undergraduate (300- and 400-level) courses at Rutgers if the
graduate program director approves them.
- Transfer
students: Up to 9 graduate credits (with
grades of B or better) may be transferred from other institutions, if taken
prior to enrollment in the M.A.T., with the approval of the graduate program
director.
