The master of arts in teaching (M.A.T.) is currently offered in Spanish. The program offers an exceptional academic and
professional preparation for those interested in pursuing a career in K-12
teaching. Graduates will acquire advanced
abilities in the target language, an intense training in pedagogical methods,
and an acute sensibility of the academic and cultural needs of the communities
they work with. The combination of these three factors--pedagogical training,
linguistic competence, and cultural awareness--sharply distinguishes our M.A.T.
from other more traditional programs.
The
M.A.T. offers two tracks: Track 1 (30
credits) is for certified Spanish teachers, while Track 2 (42 credits) is for
students seeking to receive both a master's degree and a teaching certification for the state of New Jersey.
