Teacher Education is now the new M.A.T. program at the Rutgers-Camden Institute for Effective Education.

The master of arts in teacher education (M.A.T.) graduate degree provides students with a professional and practical foundation in pedagogy, classroom practices, and theory. The program aligns with the N.J. Department of Education code requirements and provides students with an academic year (fall and spring) placement in a local school for hands-on practical learning experiences. 

Students will come away with a solid theoretical background in educational practice, a comprehensive picture of diversity and its role in classrooms and schools, a clear understanding of best clinical practices, and an appreciation of professional practices and responsibilities.

Master of arts in teaching degree concentration areas:

• Preschool through grade 3 (33 credits)
• Elementary, K-6 (30 credits)
• Secondary (30 credits) (Certifications areas: art, biological science, chemistry, English, French, mathematics, music, physics, social studies, Spanish, theater)
• Teacher of Student with Disabilities (dual concentration, add-on certificate, or full degree)
