Teaching and research assistantships,
which
cover tuition costs and provide stipends for living expenses, are
available on a competitive basis to students accepted into the Ph.D. program.
Compensation
and duties attached to the appointment are governed by a contract
negotiated between Rutgers University and the American Association of
University Professors. Responsibilities usually include serving as a
teaching assistant for two undergraduate classes per semester, or
involvement in a research project. Compensation is approximately
$18,000 per year, plus tuition remission and full medical benefits.
