Public Performance Measurement Certificate Program (Noncredit)

The Public Performance Measurement Certificate is a noncredit certificate designed for individuals in public and nonprofit organizations at all levels (front-line employees and executive and leadership positions), citizens interested in the functions of public sector performance measurement, and individuals from any field who believe the content of these courses would be valuable to their occupational development.

Who Should Enroll
Individuals in government and nonprofit organizations and citizens who wish to:
  • explore the importance and procedures of performance measurement and improvement;
  • examine citizen surveys in the context of government performance measurement and citizen involvement; and
  • develop an understanding of the role of egovernance in today's society and public organizations.
Courses
Four courses are required to complete the certificate:

PPM 100: Measuring Performance
PPM 200: Reporting Performance
PPM 300: Managing for Improved Performance
PPM 400: Budgeting for Performance

PPM courses are designed to accommodate the schedules and continuing education needs of working professionals. Courses are available in a distance-learning format, which allows for the convenience of at-home learning via online discussion forums, electronic access to most reading materials, and online submission of assignments. Additionally, programs have a comprehensive and practical emphasis. Through these four core classes, the program covers all major components of performance measurement. Classes emphasize case studies and the application of knowledge to decision making in everyday practice, so students are able to apply what they learn to their own work situations.

There are no prerequisites for admission to the Public Performance Measurement Certificate (PPM) program; however, students should be prepared for graduate-level coursework. Likewise, there are no prerequisites for the individual PPM courses. Students may take PPM courses in any order, however, completion of PPM 100 or familiarity with the basic tenets of performance measurement is highly encouraged for those students enrolling in PPM 200, 300, or 400.
