The doctor of clinical nutrition (D.C.N.) is the first advanced-practice clinical doctorate program in the United States and globally exclusively for registered dietitian nutritionists (RDN). The D.C.N. is designed for the RDN with an interest in advancing
clinical learning, practice, and research beyond the master's degree. The 50-credit program is offered in an online learning environment supplemented by virtual face-to-face meetings. Some courses utilize a hybrid format that includes a campus visit. The program enhances knowledge and skills through an in-depth study
of clinical nutrition, emerging trends in dietetics, evidence-based nutrition interventions,
education and policy, as well as critical analysis and application of research and practice
in the clinical setting. The research experience includes the design and conduct of pilot
and practice-based research studies. Students complete a 350-hour advanced-practice
clinical residency design based on individual interests and goals. The residency is an approved advanced-practice residency by the
Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). There are a limited number of campus visits for hybrid courses.
