The School of Criminal Justice, the Division of Global Change and Governance (DGCG), and Rutgers' School of Law-Newark have joined in the development of a Center for the Study of Public Security. The primary academic home for the center is the School of Criminal Justice, through which the center reaches out and collaborates with other campus and university schools/colleges and organizations.
The Center for the Study of Public Security's primary objectives include academic study of the roots and dissemination of terrorism, and the ways in which democratic societies can effectively stop terrorism and cope with the consequences. Through investigation and collaboration with public and private organizations involved in the study of security, the center's primary focus is to conduct original analytical, objective research on security and security-related issues. The center is a catalyst for education and research that informs public policy around security. The center also has as its mandate an outreach component, coordinating discussions and consultations across academic, professional, corporate, and governmental agencies.
