The Criminal Justice/NCCD Library

The Criminal Justice/NCCD Library of the Rutgers University Libraries constitutes one of the finest special collections of crime and criminal justice materials in the world.

Rutgers acquired the library collection of the National Council on Crime and Delinquency (NCCD) in 1984. Together with annual acquisitions averaging more than 3,000 titles during the past few years, the collection now consists of 100,000 monographs, 7,000 dissertations, 2,500 bound periodicals, 225 subscriptions to journals and periodicals, and 20,000 documents on microfiche.

The library routinely collects copies of research and statistical reports from many state, federal, and international criminal justice agencies. It maintains an extensive collection of dissertations relating to crime and criminal justice completed at American universities. In addition, a significant number of foreign-language periodicals and books have been added to the library in recent years.

The library has had a contractual agreement with Willow Tree Press by which additions to the collection are regularly abstracted, providing a subject access to the collection. A substantial portion of these new acquisitions is published quarterly in the paper edition of Criminal Justice Abstracts, the primary reference source for criminal justice studies. A more complete version of the library's holdings is available through the Westlaw system, and a CD-ROM version is available from Silver Platter.
