School of Communication and Information 2013–2015 Ph.D. Program in Communication, Information, and Library Studies Program

Program

The Ph.D. program in communication, information, and library studies provides doctoral training for students seeking theoretical and research skills for scholarly and professional leadership in the fields of communication, library and information science, journalism, and media studies. The program is offered by the School of Communication and Information in conjunction with the Graduate School-New Brunswick.

The focus of the program is on the nature and function of communication, information, and media institutions, policies, processes, and systems and their impact on individuals as well as social, organizational, national, and international affairs. Interdisciplinary approaches to these issues are strongly supported and encouraged in the program. The program is especially well suited for those interested in the interaction between new information and communication technologies, the individuals who use them, and the social, cultural, and political systems in which they are embedded. However, students with more narrowly aligned interests (e.g., organizational communication, interpersonal communication, health communication, informatics, librarianship, journalism, and critical/cultural studies in communication) will also find that this program serves them well.

The Ph.D. Program Office is located on the College Avenue Campus of Rutgers University in the main building of the School of Communication and Information, at the corner of College Avenue and Huntington Street.

The website at http:/comminfo.rutgers.edu/ph-d-program/inside-news-people.html contains the most current information about the program. Students and prospective students should especially consult the current year's Faculty and Student Handbook for the program which is linked from that page.
