Foundations For Your Career Journey
This
is an RBS required course and the first in the Professional Development course series. This course is designed to introduce you to the resources and opportunities available to you at the business school and Rutgers University, create the initial materials you will need to begin a job or internship search, and to begin to develop your identity as a business professional.

Academic Advising: Choosing majors, mentoring programs,
co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities
The class is focused on getting students oriented to the business school and the expectations of professionalism. The goal is for students to build a foundation for success in their academic and career endeavors while enrolled at RBS.
Classes are designed to help you to better understand the courses of study at RBS and resources available to support your academic journey, prepare you for your job/internship search, and provide guidance on Professional Development skills. This course will introduce students to/strengthen your understanding of the job search process and the resources provided by RBS Office of Career Management.

Building Your Brand
This
is an RBS required course and the second in the Professional Development course
series. This course is designed to build
your professional brand by learning to effectively communicate in professional
contexts and translating your personal skillset and competencies into
internship and career opportunities.
Students will continue to hone the resume, cover letter, and elevator
pitch created in Prof. Development 301, and use them as a basis for speaking
confidently and convincingly in the context of career fairs, interviews, and
other professional settings.

: Conducting Industry and Company Research,
Professional Writing, communications skills

: Establishing and executing long term
goals, leveraging university and alumni support
The
class is focused on helping students to capitalize on opportunities for growth
and learning in professional contexts. This may mean securing an internship or
co-op experience, but it may also mean finding ways to develop and demonstrate competencies
which will inform their future career paths as well differentiate themselves
from competitors.
Classes
are designed to improve your written and verbal communications skills, to
practice professionalism, and learn where the best opportunities are and how to
secure them.

Conquering Your Transition
This
is an RBS required course and the third and final in the Professional
Development course series. This course
is designed to translate your accumulated business knowledge and experiences
into success in the business world. Students
will demonstrate mastery of their professional branding materials (resume, LinkedIn
profile, pitch) and adopt an identity as a lifelong learner who continues to
seek improvement beyond the college classroom.

: Understand and prepare for workplace culture
and performance assessments

Skills Development
: Identify in-demand supplementary workplace
skills and how to master them; understand the principles of sound personal
finance, budgeting, and investing

Growth Mindset
: Understand how professional development,
certifications, graduate education, and other on-going learning opportunities
are important and how to gain access to them
The
class is focused on helping students to navigate their transition from college
to the workplace. This will include learning about the full-time job offer
process, negotiation of salary, and understanding common raise and promotion
practices once in industry. It will also
involve mastering skills necessary to foster a supportive professional network,
navigate the challenges of personal finance, and navigate difficult yet common
workplace challenges.

Business Forum (Professional Development) (3)
Please note - ONLY students who started prior to Fall 2023 can take Business Forum to complete their RBS Core requirement. Students who start Fall 2023 or later MUST take the new sequence consisting of Foundations For Your Career Journey, Building Your Brand, and Conquering Your Transition.
The 29:011:300 Business Forum offering will be phased out after the Fall 2024 semester.
A 14-week course
designed to help the student understand the programs of study at RBS and
resources available to support your academic journey, prepare you for your job/internship
search, and provide instruction on key personal development skills. The
learning outcome is that students will leverage all the course content to
become high-performance candidates in a competitive job market. The material
covered is relevant to every business student, regardless of major or career
objective. Explores key concepts, techniques, and resources students can use
immediately to influence the next step in their careers and be successful in
any postgraduation employment situation. There are three components to the
course: 1) Academic Advising: Majors and related topics, advising, academic
success factors, ethics and integrity 2) Career readiness: Career paths,
resume, interviewing skills, LinkedIn, networking, etc. 3) Skills Development:
Financial literacy, business and interpersonal communication, presentation and
technical skills.
This course is writing intensive.
