Through its teacher preparation programs, the Department of Urban Education empowers teacher candidates as justice-oriented educators in racially, ethnically, economically, and linguistically diverse urban schools. For the Urban Secondary Education major, students dual major in one of the following disciplines: English, mathematics, science (biology, chemistry, geology, environmental sciences, or physics), social studies (history, political science), and world language (Spanish or Portuguese). Students interested in the ESL and Bilingual Urban Education major can also major or minor in one of the above-mentioned content areas. Interested students
