Credit Load

University College-Newark is designed for adult learners as a part-time college. To be considered a full-time student, an individual must carry a minimum of 12 credits per semester. Students may not carry more than 12 credits per semester without written permission from the
Office of Academic Services.
 

Credit overloads are intended for exceptional students. As a rule, a student must meet all of the following standards for consideration for a credit overload:

  • Cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher
  • English 101 and 102 completed
  • Math proficiency completed
  • Major declared with an academic department
  • Successful completion of 24 Rutgers University–Newark credits
