Credits and Residency

A student must successfully complete at least 124 academic credits to graduate from the University College-Newark. Successful completion of some programs of study may require more than the minimum 124 credits necessary for graduation.

Students in University College-Newark are expected to complete all degree credits from the time of their matriculation at Rutgers University-Newark, including credits required for their major or for the core curriculum. Exceptions may be made in very special circumstances with the prior written approval of the Office of Academic Services. In addition, for courses meant to be applicable to the completion of the major, the student must receive prior written approval from the academic department responsible for the major.

Students matriculated in the University College-Newark must earn 30 of their last 42 credits while registered in classes offered by Rutgers-Newark or registered in special programs approved in writing by the Office of Academic Services. Students who transfer into University College-Newark from other institutions with senior status must earn a minimum of 30 credits while registered as University College-Newark students in order to receive a bachelor's degree from the college.

Credits earned more than seven years before the date of graduation are not necessarily accepted in fulfillment of the requirements for graduation.
